Welcome to Nepal! Upon your arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu, a representative from Summit Nepal Adventure will greet you at the terminal and transfer you to your hotel in the city. After some rest, you’ll meet your trekking guide for a detailed briefing about the Annapurna Base Camp Short Trek, including the route, gear check, and logistics. If you arrive early, you can take a short walk around Thamel, the bustling tourist district filled with shops, cafes, and cultural vibes. Overnight stay in Kathmandu.
After an early breakfast, take a scenic morning flight to Pokhara, where you’ll enjoy aerial views of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges. Upon arrival, drive through beautiful hills and river valleys to Matque, the trek's starting point. From Matque, begin your hike along terraced farmland, rhododendron forests, and traditional Gurung villages, gradually ascending to the charming village of Chhomrong, which offers stunning views of Annapurna South and Machapuchare (Fishtail). Overnight stay in a local teahouse.
After breakfast, begin your descent on a series of stone steps to cross the Chhomrong Khola (river), then climb through dense forest and bamboo groves to reach Sinuwa. The trail continues with ups and downs through lush jungle landscapes, passing through Bamboo and Dovan before finally reaching Himalaya, nestled in a serene valley. This stretch offers breathtaking views of towering cliffs and cascading waterfalls. Overnight in Himalaya at a cozy teahouse.
This is one of the most scenic and rewarding days of the trek. You’ll gradually ascend through Deurali and walk along the Machapuchare Base Camp (MBC), surrounded by snow-capped peaks. From MBC, the trail climbs further to Annapurna Base Camp (ABC), where you’ll be welcomed by a stunning natural amphitheater of Himalayan giants, including Annapurna I (8,091m), Hiunchuli, Annapurna South, and Fishtail. Enjoy the breathtaking 360-degree panorama and a magical sunset if the weather is clear. Overnight at a teahouse in ABC.
Wake up early to witness the incredible sunrise over the Annapurna massif, a moment you'll never forget. After breakfast, begin your descent along the same trail, retracing your steps back through MBC, Deurali, and Himalaya, before finally reaching Bamboo, a peaceful spot surrounded by forest. The downhill trek is easier but can still be physically demanding, so pace yourself as you descend to lower altitudes. Overnight at a teahouse in Bamboo.
Today is your final day on the trail. Begin your trek by retracing your route through Sinuwa and Chhomrong, then descend steeply back to Matque. From here, a scenic drive will take you back to Pokhara, where you can check into your hotel and relax after days of trekking. You can spend the evening exploring Lakeside Pokhara, strolling along Phewa Lake, or enjoying dinner with a view of the mountains you’ve just conquered. Overnight stay in Pokhara.
After breakfast, return to Kathmandu either by a short 30-minute flight or a 6–7 hour drive, depending on your preference. Upon arrival, you’ll be transferred to your hotel. The rest of the day is yours to relax, explore Kathmandu’s heritage sites, or shop for souvenirs. In the evening, you may enjoy a farewell dinner hosted by Summit Nepal Adventure, featuring traditional Nepali cuisine and cultural dance performances. Overnight in Kathmandu.
Your incredible journey to the Annapurna region comes to an end today. A Summit Nepal Adventure representative will transfer you to Tribhuvan International Airport for your final departure. We hope you had a truly unforgettable Himalayan experience and look forward to welcoming you back for more adventures in Nepal. Safe travels!
The Annapurna Base Camp Short Trek is a condensed version of the classic ABC route, specially crafted for travelers who are short on time but still want to experience the stunning Himalayan landscapes and reach the iconic Annapurna Sanctuary. While the traditional trek may take up to 10–12 days, this short trek typically ranges from 6 to 8 days, depending on the starting point and walking pace. At Summit Nepal Adventure, we’ve optimized the route to include the main highlights like Jhinu Danda, Chhomrong, and Machhapuchhre Base Camp, ensuring trekkers get a rich experience without feeling rushed.
The short ABC trek is considered moderate in difficulty. You don’t need prior trekking experience, but a reasonable level of physical fitness is essential, as the trail involves several hours of walking daily, often on stone steps and uneven paths. The maximum elevation reached is around 4,130 meters at Annapurna Base Camp. The shorter duration means fewer acclimatization days, so our itinerary is carefully designed to allow for gradual altitude gain, and our experienced guides are always monitoring your well-being.
Altitude sickness is less common on the ABC trek compared to Everest treks, but it can still occur as you ascend above 3,000 meters. At Summit Nepal Adventure, we always emphasize proper hydration, pacing, and rest. Our guides are trained to recognize symptoms early and will take immediate action if anyone begins to show signs of AMS (Acute Mountain Sickness). We also provide support in case an evacuation or descent is necessary, although such cases are rare on this route.
Our package includes everything you need for a smooth and enjoyable trek. This typically covers all ground transportation (such as from Pokhara to Nayapul or the trailhead), accommodations in comfortable teahouses along the route, three meals a day during the trek, professional English-speaking guides and porters, and all necessary permits (Annapurna Conservation Area Permit and TIMS card). We also provide pre-trek briefings, essential trekking gear rentals (like sleeping bags and down jackets), and 24/7 support throughout your trip.
You’ll be staying in traditional mountain teahouses, which offer cozy rooms, usually with twin beds and shared bathrooms. While simple, these lodges are warm and welcoming, often run by local families who provide hearty home-cooked meals. Electricity and hot showers are available in most places, sometimes for a small extra fee. Summit Nepal Adventure ensures you stay in the most reliable and cleanest teahouses available along the route.
The best times to trek to Annapurna Base Camp are during the spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November). These months offer stable weather, clear mountain views, and ideal trekking temperatures. Spring brings blooming rhododendrons, while autumn offers crisp air and excellent visibility. The trek is also possible in winter (December to February), but it can get quite cold, and trails may be icy or snow-covered. We generally avoid the monsoon season (June to August) due to slippery trails and reduced visibility.
Not at all! This trek is suitable for beginners as well as experienced trekkers. It’s a fantastic introduction to Himalayan trekking for first-timers. At Summit Nepal Adventure, we support you from the beginning — offering detailed pre-departure information, physical training tips, and gear recommendations. Our guides are patient and helpful, making sure everyone enjoys the journey at their own pace.
You’ll need basic trekking gear such as sturdy hiking boots, layered clothing (for varying temperatures), a warm jacket, gloves, sunglasses, and a backpack. We’ll provide you with a full packing list upon booking, and we can also assist with renting any missing items in Pokhara or Kathmandu. Summit Nepal Adventure ensures that you're well-prepared before you hit the trail.
